Somerset is situated in South West England, Great Britain, UK. The county town is Taunton and the two cities are Wells and the much larger Bath.

There are many large towns, including Yeovil, Glastonbury, Weston-super-Mare and the traditional, seaside tourist destination of Minehead. Somerset borders five counties, with Devon to the South West, Dorset South East, Wiltshire to the East and Bristol and Gloucestershire to the North East.

Its location is within easy reach of major cities, such as Exeter, Plymouth, Bristol, Cardiff and London by motorway and has a relaxed culture with sandy beaches and historical towns. It can serve as a convenient base to tour the Westcountry.

Although perhaps not quite as famous for being a tourist destination as nearby Devon and Cornwall, its picturesque, rural countryside and sandy beaches make tourism an important industry behind agriculture. Attractions include the Mendip Hills, Exmoor National Park, Quantock Hills, plus the resort of Minehead.

Somerset has a low population density, as despite being the 7th largest county in England by area, it is only the 22nd most populated with just over 900,000 residents (2007 census).
